Answer:
Well my good friend it is not so simple, I think there are several reasons: 1: The name of your country is the same as the name of a big bird we eat during Chrismas and Thanksgiving. 2: Your country in general has a different culture, not the same occidental tradition therefore people are afraid because for some people difference egual bad. 3: Your country is located where tons of troubles are currently and the general geographical knowledge of the average American stops where is boundaries stop 4: You have a different religion and there are some peoples doing an untrue link between muslims and terrorist and that is very unfortunate. But hey, don't worry, not everybody thinks the same, I personnaly would be really happy to go in Turkey

I have to agree with Nelly. I live in UK and very little is shown about Turkey on news programs with the exception of disasters bombings ect, but the same could be said for many other countrys. You say turkey is given a bad image in the media because of religion? I honestly cant say it,s something ive read or seen in UK but im not sure how other countrys portraying you.Religion is a personal choice (hopefully) and what you are or believe in makes no difference to me.Ive been to Turkey many times and found it to be a modern vibrant place to live, people are as nice if not nicer than any other country ive been to.Dont think because the media says it we believe it please,i for one happen to be bit jealous you stay there!!

Yes u r definitely right. I usually watch the main news channels CNN and BBC. I hate, even I m tired to hate that they usually show only head covered women in the streets of Istanbul to represent us as an Islam country.

I am a Turkish-British and I am sorry but if you are talking in general I will not agree with you, as I watch British TV all the time and there's nothing bad has been said but been fair about things as much as their understanding, I have watched Sari Zeybek the other night and its nice to see that...There's an advertisement of Turkey as a beautiful holiday place is always on the British TV(at least5-6 times a day), and also I have not met a British person who has not been to Turkey yet, I know at least 10 people(from neighbours to friends) who go to Turkey for holiday every year, if the TV showed Turkey off as bad would they go? Surprisingly most would as its the British attitude, but politics are different and one minute Turkey is good next minute perhaps not that good always changing just like it would in any other country, I know Turkish TV as well they are not much different.... So not to worry about little things like this arkadas... Bazen biz Turkler diger ulkeleri critize ediyoruz ama bize gelince kaldiramiyoruz galiba cunku ben de oyleyim :o)

Umm..First of all I'm Turkish too and I'm sad for that too..And u know half of the world don't love us aand we are Muslim. But I think it's not very much unfair. Because bad things really happen here..

I would understand if you felt that the media under represents you. But quite frankly, not much information about your country is given to us to form a good or bad opionion.

I don't think that Turkey has nearly the bad reputation of other islamic nations. At least in the U.S. I don't see much bad news coming from Turkey. If I were traveling, I don't think I would have a problem visiting Turkey like I would say Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Syria, and others of the sort.

Which media in particular is negative towards Turkey? Newspaper, TV, or Radio? Southwest Asia in general, is suffering from the geopolitical policies of the British for centuries, and in general, if a nation is subservient to the western powers, will be treated in a lenient way, no matter how bad its population is treated.

They do the same to the US, they represent us in a bad way. I am sure there are loving people in your country just as I know their are loving people in my country. The media is owned by heartless people bent on power and the manipulation of public opinion in every country on this planet. I would say it's the divide and conquer strategy.

Nothing wrong with Turks. Economic crises, or at least downturns, in western and central Europe predicated on numerous social economic and ideological variables have left many Europeans feeling vulnerable. At the same time, numerous Turkish people are immigrating to these European nations, upsetting longstanding homogenous populations, and exposing cultural misunderstanding. Turkish scapegoating is a simple, popular, and unwieldy solution to these complex realities. Additionally, countries around Europe are beginning to demand that the Turkish government accept responsibility for the Armenian genocide (1915-???). Over 1,000,000 people murdered (allegedly), and the Turkish government refuses to accept that it may have happened. Refusing to acknowledge a horrific genocidal atrocity, while being scapegoated for taking jobs in Germany, may not be the best course of action.
