Mistakes are not to be erased. Draw 1 line through it and write the correct answer. A pencil may be used for math unless the professor tells you otherwise. No one will see your notes but you, so it doesn't matter what you use. All reports will have to be typed on a computer. You better brush up on your grammar before you take a college level English class.

Please tell me you're joking! You are not in first grade anymore! Use whatever you want. The professors won't care, or if they do they will tell you upfront on the first day of class. BTW, the phrase is not "be more better" it's "be better".

I use a pen, typically blue. Erasable pens aren´t a bad option .. for notes within a notebook though a pencil could work (especially if it´s one you may want to sell at the end of the term) but make sure you have at least 2 that are well sharpened !! Math isn´t my best subject so I usually use a pencil. In other classes, a pen as described above. As someone else said, be ready to type all of your reports. Most instructors will want them in MLA format, which you may already be familiar with, if not be sure to ask (What font, size, single or double space, etc. - references / works cited) Good luck to you and don´t fall behind in your classes!

Ask the instructor when you get there. to me it would be beneficial to buy one of each then you are prepared. :)

I'm not too sure why this is under etiquette, but w/e. profs usually prefer pen because it's "permanent" so when you write a test and you get it back and you think what you worte down should get full marks you can show him/her. and because it's in pen it would be hard to change. I prefer using pen in most of my lectures and pencils for ones that have math involved so that I can erase it. as for correcting things in pen, if it's your notes, you can just corss it out (put a line through, not scratch it out too messy), it is your notes, the prof isn't going to look at it. on a test, sometimes the prof will tell you pen or pencil, and if your using pen again just corss it out, (a line through it) and you should be fine. hope this helps

None of my professors seemed to care - but you can always ask...them. I preferred a pen. I found a pretty decent quality automatic pencil, and that worked fine for math, but I went back to using a pen - it was just easier.

I've always used a pen. Problem with pencils is that the point can break ... and there might not be a pencil sharpener handy. Since you're going to college, I suggest you take a basic English course right off the bat: "more better" is incorrect. To correct any mistakes on tests or in your notes just draw one line through the wrong answer.
