(mothers day) why do husbands have to buy their wives a gift for mothers day, when the wife is not his mom????

Because shes the MOTHER to the kids you had its polite and a nice gesture.

A husband usually buys his wife a Mother's Day gift to show his respect for mothering his children.

Because it shows he appreciates her as the mother of his children.

The person doesn't have to be YOUR mom. You are giving them a gift because they are a mother.

He is the mother of his child. Just like she should buy him a gift for Father's Day. I think it's not only a day for children to appreciate their parents (both Mother's and Father's day) but for the spouse to appreciate all they do for their children.

To thank her for putting up with YOU and taking care of YOUR child. apples dont fall far from the tree....

but she is A mom and your wife. it's not uncommon to buy a gift or a card for other women in someone's life if they're close even if it's not the person's mom. Hell, if you're too cheap to buy your wife even a freaking CARD for mother's day, you're probably just a cheapskate and not good enough for her. It's another way to show you appreciate everything she does, not just as a mom in general but as the mother of the children who are unfortunate enough to have YOU as a father.
