Who has a better career: chartered Accountant or Doctor?

Does your career define you?

  • Most people identify themselves by what they do-athlete, scholar, doctor, accountant, etc. Does your career define you? Is that who you are?

  • Answer:

To a certain extent, though my life is much fuller than just my career. My career is a part of me. I have a very full life outside of work.

hahaha no it doesn't I'm currently a face painter at Disney, before that I worked at an animal hospital so my careers don't define me, some of them I choose by what I like (painting, animals) but they never define me. I guess it reflects aspects of my personality but that's all.

To some extent; I think a person can't help but let it define them somewhat because for a lot of us, that is what we may spend some 40-odd years doing. However, I have other ways of balancing it out and keeping people guessing - I'm a chemical engineer, so I'm a science nerd in most peoples minds, but when they see I love bands like Nine Inch Nails, they are somewhat taken aback because of the stereotypes that Metal and Industrial music carry.

Yes and no. I'm a Respiratory Therapist. I think more importantly I'm a care giver. I like to take care of people. I think that's who I am. Though it's hard to leave that job at the hospital. I've had to use my skills outside of work many times.

I translate therefore I am ! :) If you genuinely like what you do, then it has a positive effect on yourself and how you view yourself.

As am out of job at present, the saying that "Your Career Define's you" doesnt goes well with me. If I change my career in future - then I would have lost my identity? On the other hand, I think, what defines me is my personality, my values and my relations.
