What causes deja vu?

  • i know its french for "already seen", but how does it happen? i always get deja vus every month or so and it kinda creeps me out.its usually from one of my dreams.

  • Answer:

Hi 3 days ago I read a great article in the New "Good Housekeeping" magazine about Dejavu. This is the issue with Brad Paisley and his wife and baby on the cover (January issue). It is a short article but a wonderful explanation of the latest research as to why dejavu occurs. It talks of the brain sending messages and getting crossed with past memories. You might be able to pull up the article on their website. It sure enlightened me!

The answer depends a bit on your spiritual or religious orientation. For example, if you believe we only live this one life, and that is it, it's a more complex (an less believable) answer than I personally believe in. But if you accept the existence of Reincarnation and also Soul travel, it's pretty simple: Deja vu then is looked at as EITHER: A. Reliving something we LITERALLY lived before (such as in a past life), or B. Experiencing an event INWARDLY (such as in your dreams) before re-experiencing it OUTWARDLY. I have quite a few deja vu experiences myself and have come to accept them as a normal part of life...but also to try being just a little more alert whenever one does come along, so that hopefully I don't miss something important. Hmm...I haven't done a deja vu page yet for my poetic-humor.com website. That's a GREAT idea! Thanks! Later, Ghost

I've actually had the hairs on my arms stand up before...I don't know what causes it but this site should shed some light on it for you..Sorry Im not one to copy and paste someone elses thoughts and take credit for it but check this site its really informative.. http://science.howstuffworks.com/deja-vu.htm/printable

it is precognition, or premonition

It's been said (don't you love that noncommittal phrase?) it's smell. Smell is one of the most powerful memory triggers.
