For a study abroad as chemical engineering major, which university should I accept and why : University of Leeds, university of nottingham, University of Edinburgh, University of manchester or the University of sheffield?

Update: So I actually picked the University of Manchester and it was absolutely amazing. I had a great time there, I learnt a lot about all kinds of things. mancunians are amazing! The city is such an international pole, i really didn't expect it to be that diverse! Manchester is also very convenient. It's such a student city! And it is also so close from everything. All of England is less than an 2 hours away. I had the chance to visit Edinburgh. It was absolutely gorgeous, the university looked amazing, but the city was kinda small for me. So overall, I found Manchester to be a really great pick

I've studied at the University of Manchester and the University of Leeds (though not in Chem Eng) spent a fair bit of time in Sheffield, been to Edinburgh a couple of times and know nothing whatsoever about Nottingham. On that basis, I'd recommend Manchester. It's a great, well-respected, university, especially for engineering and sciences, and it's a really fun city to live in. Manchester is the largest city of the ones you've listed, and it really shows when it comes to nightlife and things to do. Even if you're not into clubbing and stuff, Manchester just has more to offer because it's that much bigger. If you don't want that, and are looking for somewhere maybe a bit smaller and quieter, then probably Edinburgh wins. It's got the academic prestige and it's a beautiful small city. You'll still have fun there.

Well - they are all great cities and you'll have a great time whichever you choose! In terms of reputation, I would say that Edinburgh is generally seen as being the best, although I don't know specifically about chemical engineering. It really all depends on your interests, but in a nutshell, I'd say Manchester is best for clubbing/drinking, Edinburgh is the most beautiful city and the best University, Sheffield is definitely the dark horse - lots of people fall in love with it, as it has a friendly atmoshphere and is excellent for hiking and climbing. It also has a great underground music scene (better than Manchester in many ways). When faced with the same choice, I went to Edinburgh and didn't regret it!

Thanks for the A2A. I have the same knowledge as you, maybe less, so can't really answer this question. However, being the football fan that I am, I would have gone to Manchester, because that's United's home and I would go and watch each and every game in The Theater of Dreams. Honestly though, go where you believe you will achieve your potential. Ask people who study in these univs. Contact them using facebook/linkedin/anything that can get you in touch with them. I hope this helps.

Bit of a conflict of interest here, but we offer Chemical Engineering here at the University of Bradford where I work. It's located close to both Leeds and Manchester and is a significantly cheaper city to live in.

I'd recommend the University of Sheffield One of the best Engineering schools in the country. Fantastic teaching and great engineering heritage too. Having visited all 4 universities you've listed, Sheffield is definitely my favourite city to live in. Very clean, great atmosphere and conveniently located (it's in the centre of the country being only 1 hour away from several major cities).
