How do you view clouds?

When on Google Earth, why don't clouds obscure the view?

  • Answer:

Sattelites are all above the clouds, so if it's cloudy, that's all the photos will show (visible light of course, you can take pictures with radars or infrared that would show what's under the clouds, but those aren't the pictures Google is using). Sattelites circle the earth about every 90 minutes, so the steam of pictures is endless. Google just waits for pictures of a cloudless day in each area.

Other answers

If your viewpoint is far enough away from the Earth's surface on Google Earth your view will be obscured by clouds, If you bring your viewpoint in close enough you can get in between the clouds and the ground and your view will then be free to the ground. Make sure that you have the check mark in the Weather box on the leftside in order to have the Weather showing.
