Does a dishwasher have a food trap that needs to be emptied?
-
may be a basic question, but i have never had one before, and this one seems to leave junk on dishes. curious if i should be cleaning a trap out or if its just no good.

Answer:
most newer dish washers dont have a trap... just a screen in the bottom.. large food chunks will get caught in there.. you can easily see them. If there is a chicken bone in there throw it out. Some older washers had a little stainless or plastic screen basket in the bottom of the washer that was very easy to clean out. if you hve one of those it sould be very obvious. I think you probably dont just becasue your are asking.

There is a trap or strainer located at the bottom where the drain is. They can occasionally get clogged up. The most common indicator of this is if at the end of the cycle there is water standing in the bottom. Generally you can Google your dishwasher make and model and find web sites that can give you detailed step by step directions to fix the problem.

There is not a food trap. Remove the bottom tray and look for anything that would prevent it from draining, there is also a drain hose that connects to the sink drain make sure it is not kinked. Its probably just no good though, after 6-12 mo. most are poor. I wash by hand its really easier.

They usually have a grinder that minces up the food as it is pumped out. You could just have an inferior model; try rinsing them better before putting them in the washer.

Not as far as I know, you could inspect the hole thing and look for bits that open and see if there is a place for it although I doubt it, you are suppose to scrap all the food off before you load it in the dishwasher.

Yes it does, it should be on the bottom of the dishwasher in a little cage down the dishwashers plug hole, it should be able to twist out, an you can empty it

I've never heard of a dishwasher like that. I've used about 4 different dishwashers and none of them ever had anything like that.
