What paint color would look good next to a dark wood?

I wouldn't go with anything too dark, it will make your room look gloomy. It depends on what room of the house it is and what the furnishings are like....other colors in the room. Maybe a nice wallpaper with design or a textured surface. Consider all of these factors when choosing your color.

For a cherry wood, try a beige/tan color with a burgundy or chocolate accent wall.

Most any color would look OK in my opinion. You might try a medium tan color, like wheat or khaki? A soft green or blue would be pretty also. Even a buttery yellow. Woodwork kind of blends into the room, so really the possibilities are limitless. Congrats on your new home and good luck decorating!
