Answer:
What are the causes of heart disease? The most common form of heart disease is the build up of cholesterol on artery walls which begin to obstruct the flow of blood to the body. It also increases blood pressure. This can also affect heart valves. A heart attack can occur when the artery becomes completely clogged with cholesterol, but this only occurs in about 10% of the cases. Most often, the artery becomes clogged and a flap of the material tears lose with a blood clot causing a sudden and unexpected total blockage of blood to the heart muscle. If the blockage is in an artery in or leading to the brain, this is called a stroke. What are the effects of heart disease? - High blood pressure, further damaging the arteries. - Loss of blood flow in small arteries, capillaries causing impotence. How can it be prevented? Over 90% of incidents of heart disease can be prevented through changes to diet and lifestyle. The most important change is to avoid all animal flesh and dairy products. Most people will produce an optimal level of cholesterol without having to consume animal-based products. The cell wall in animal muscle tissue contains cholesterol and that explains why Americans on a standard American diet (SAD) have such problems with heart disease and strokes. It's not the fat, it's the lean meat that contains cholesterol. I recommend that you take classes sponsored by the Seventh Day Adventists to learn more about a healthy diet and lifestyle. I am an atheist, but these people have a lot to teach us. Heart disease is almost unheard of in populations that eat a low-fat whole plant based diet. SDA members live an average of 7 years longer and appear to me to be much healthier and more alert and alive.

here is the article about Causes Of Heart Diseases hope that could help you http://www.americanchronicle.com/articles/view/158990
Heart diseasea are numerous But the disease that is top contributor is-- CORONARY ARTERY DISEASE (CAD)--- occlusive disease of coronary arteries (these are blood vessles that supply heart with oxygen and nutrients-- occlusion leads to damage to heart) This single disease may represent as --- 1.Chest Pain on exertion (ANGINA) 2.Heart attack ( myocardial infarction--MI) 3.RHYTHM DISORDERS that may lead to Sudden death (If) -MI leads to irregular conduction in Heart(ventricular fibrillation for example) 4.Congestive Heart Failure--- leads to symptoms like beathlessness, pedal swelling, abdominal distension Now Risk factors for this disease are classified as A) Modifyable -- that can be corrected B) Non-Modifyable --- that cannot be corrected or controlled(curse given by God you can say) A) MODIFIABLE RISK FACTORS :--- 1. Hypertension --- blood pressure more than 140/90. Causes minimal or no symptom as such. what it does is damage to heart, brain, kidneys and many organs for more details on BP and hypertension read one of my answer at-- http://in.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ajav89vu1V0dh8A4c09KfCqRHQx.;_ylv=3?qid=20100523072216AAXoQHl&show=7#profile-info-zo9BBjgUaa 2. Diabetes Mellitus (DM) --- Blood sugar increases. Again minimal symptoms like HT but damage equivalent to hypertension(Hypertension and diabetes collectively are known as SILENT KILLERS) DM can be due to obesity more calorie intake, drugs (type 1) Or may be due to genetic factors(Type2) 3. Sedentary life style and obesity--- Intake of calories more than needed lead to Increased blood glucose(Diabetes) and increased blood cholesterol(hypercholestrolemia). Latter is the THE MAJOR contributor to development of CORONARY ARTERY DISEASE (CAD) 4. Hypercholestrolemia-- Discussed above 5. Smoking ---- Is also a major contributor to CAD read details from one of my answers at--- http://in.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Au9PMO.cokl7O0g5_k2d8xqRHQx.;_ylv=3?qid=20100522024258AAsWdCV&show=7#profile-info-P7ymaM3paa 7. Alcohalism -- In heavy amounts Is also a risk factor for CAD. It was suspected earlier that moderate drinking may decrease chances of heart disease but No clinical trial till now was successful in proving this. So better avoid it. In addition alcohal can cause abnormalities in heart muscle causing it to fail (dialated cardiomyopathy) 8. Drugs-- certain drugs can contribute directly or indirectly in development of CAD and other disease. suspected examples include -- oral contraceptives, steroids(increases risk of development of HT & DM) 9. Chronic stress and anxiety-- affects cardiac health in complex ways. most importantly it leads to hypertension B) NON-MODIFIABLE RISK FACTORS--- 1. Age-- increasing age pose danger of developing Hypertension, Diabetes and sometimes directly heart diseases 2. Genetics/Heredity-- again first degree patients of Diabetes and certain heart diseases pose one at increased risk of developing same disease due to genetic factors. also defective heart can present since birth. 3. Gender --- males are at increased risk of developing heart disease than females these were risk factors for CAD. certain other causes/ risk factors of other heart disease include -- Infections -- Best examples are Rheumatic heart disease and Infective endocarditis(lead to heart valve damage that may remain for rest of the life) -- What one can do to avoid heart disease?? Try rectifying all modifiable risk factors-- 1. Control hypertension and diabetes or hypercholestrolemia with medicine if present. things described below will also avoid risk of developing HT and Diabetes 2. Exercise regularly. (minimum brisk walk of 45 mins daily) 3. Take optimum calories-- don't let your calorie intake exceed what you need. Decrease fatty, excesseively salted food. avoid saturated fats like butter. increase roughage intake in diet 4. Maintain you weight to avoid obesity. whether wt. Ok fpr you is calculated by BODY MASS INDEX BODY MASS INDEX-- Weight in kg/Square of Height in Meters Wt(Kg) / HtxHt Upto 25 is normal 25-30 is overweight 30 or above is obese 5. Decrease oxidative stress on body by takin lots of antioxidants in diet from Fruits, juices(Vit A,C & E are antioxidants) 6. Leave smoking, alcohalism and any other addiction 7. Do stress management. don't let stress take toll of your heart. Practice meditation and change attitude towards life and itd difficulties. 8. Get regular cardiovascular health checkups ta least annually if healthy now 9. Treat minor infections at the earliest. (to avoid diseases like Rheumatic heart disease and Infective endocarditis) Good luck kindly rate this
