My mother was exactly the same ..... it had to be solid gold and nothing else ..... medically, it's known as nuffinundahfreeundredquiditis. Seriously, people are right here ..... anything with a base metal in, even some silver items, will play havoc with your skin. Simply never wear them.

I have had this problem my whole life! If I am desperate to wear something, I apply clear fingernail polish on the area that will touch my skin. This works for about two hours with rings and bracelets, it is impossible to do with watches and it never worked for earring posts. For the most part, I have to stick to 14K gold or higher jewelry.

put a coat of clear nail polish on the part the touches your sking. Or buy nickle free jewlery. you can still be "cheap" but get nickle free....most likely thats what your allergic to.

I can't give you the answer..however when someone does, could you please let me know. I have two daughters who have exactly the same problem...Pierced ears seem to be the worst.

I am the same. I think some of the cheaper jewellery has nickel in it and its probably that (especially earrings). Try and make sure your jewellery is nickel free. You should find some of the cheaper silver and gold plated items will not irritate you. Good luck :-)

The nickel in the metal is the culprit. Try to get pieces that are hypo allergic or made for sensitive skin types.

You could try coating it with clear nail polish so it's not in direct contact with your skin.
