probably not the best idea of asking that question on here unless you want to read an essay from someone on how to play chess. Just buy a chest set and read the chest guide and it'll show how to play
Buy Play Winning Chess by Seirawan, it's a good book. To read things about chess try here. http://www.chesscorner.com/tutorial/learn.htm

chess works like this : there are three basic phases...openings, middle game, & end game each phase has different logics, tactics, & strategies the purpose of this game is to "checkmate" the other king....you use the other pieces to achieve this goal so how do you play & what are the rules??....a few easy words won't help you you need THIS book ! "the idiots guide to chess"....no...i'm not making fun of you...this book really exists it teaches you what you need to know

Surely this chess club has teachers. If not it is not much of a club.

i can tell you how the peices move and the objective: Pawns (all of the first row)- They can only move forward one space with the exception of the first move which you can choose to move one or two spaces, no more than 2. Castle (i'm pretty sure it's called a Rook but it looks like a castle)- can move forward/backward and side to side. it can move an unlimited amount of spaces, but it only has one move per turn, so you can go forward 4 spaces but not 4 spaces forward and then 3 to the right Bishop (pointed whistle looking top)- Diagonal, any amount of spaces. Horse/Knight (looks like a horse's head)- goes in an L shape so 2 spaces in one direction and then 1 more to the side. King (cross on the crown)- One space any direction. Queen (Just a crown)- Any direction, any amount of spaces. Objective: Alternating turns until one person get's Check-Mate. Check mate is when the opponent's king has no more available moves that don't result in death (or removal off the board). Check is when you are in position to remove/kill the king but they can move somewhere on their next turn so they won't be killed. There are some fancier plays that take lot's of skill, but you can look them up later. An example of one is called "Castle' where the king takes place of the rook and the rook moves to spaces twoard the king's previous spot, in order to get Check Mate while a king is Castled you must first remove the Rook, the king is Castled with. Hope this helps :)
