1) Takes lessons from a Grandmaster or International Master at a Chess Club or online 2) Study books appropriate for your level 3) Solve lots of tactics problems

I lost many games their before I won as well, no my record is around .500. Just keep playing and you will learn. I would do the tactics trainer on their though you only can do 3 a day but it teaches good tactics.

Hi there, I have been teaching chess over the last few years and I think I can help you out here. Chess is a rather complex game, but we can break it down into three phases- the opening, the middlegame and the endgame. The opening is the easiest (and in some situations, the hardest if you dislike memorization) phase to learn. Many openings have been already created and analyzed. Certain openings are better than others however, any opening that you know is better than an opening you don't know. For learning openings I would suggest buying a copy of MCO-15 by Grandmaster Nick deFirmian or watching aeveral chess tutorials on sites like thechesswebsite.com. You can also find greta tutorials on openings on sites such as youtube.com when you google the name of the opening you want to learn. The middlegame is the toughest phase to learn. It is comprised of two things- tactical and positional play. Tactics are combinations that lead to checkmate, a material advantage, or a winning position. Positional chess is playing the position as best as you can by putting your pieces on the best squares. Although this could bean abstract concept you can learn a lot about this from Jeremy Silman's how to reassess your chess. You can also practice chess tactics on sites like chesstempo.com. As these two parts of your games increase you will notice that you are wining many more games thanyou used to becuase the middlegame is where positions are "won" The endgame is literally the end of the game. Based on the position it can be very complex or very simple: your goal is to promote one of your pawns to a queen and win the game shortly after. Although this phase is tough and "boring" to learn its an important aspect of the game- if you cannot close the game out you can't win! A good book for this is Silman's Endgame course. Although studying the game is tedious, you can always practice online. Sites such as chess.com are free and give you a great opportunity to play vs others. By playing you can figure out where you are making errors and try to fix them. Hopefully I helped, Eric

Once I played I guy and lost. But he also told me a lot, how easy this or that move was. (and I still don't know). So, you need to read and practice (and loose) a lot, but also to find a good teacher, who explains why you lost. That's what I gonna do. It might help to get jailed for some years, too, like in "the chess novella". :-)

Chess? O-kay. I'm assuming you know the rules of chess. Uh, I can't really help you on here, where you can only see text. There are many chess books that can help you on tactics and openings and whatnot. I'm not exactly the best chess player but I know a lot of openings and tactics.
