What kind of dance is prominently used in Musical Theater?

Jazz, tap, occasionally hip hop. There's broadway, and just a lot of fun stuff.

well i do musical threatre and we mostly do a lot of jazz so get flexible, we also ballet, and lyrical which is close to ballet and jazz. i think the best way for you to take jazz or lyrical its more exciting in my opinion. Jazz can be danced to in any genre of music-sad-slow-fast-pop-etc. lyrical id more softer. i think jazz is best because if you are a beginner you should start there....lyrical or more complex-meaning harder ... most lyrical dancers have a jazz background. i would try jazz. hope this helps you!

you need to take as much as possible. there are so many different types of plays in theatre that require dancers to have a broad experience in dance. its best if you have a great foundation with ballet. once you get some good technique in that, you should start adding jazz and modern to the mix. then when you become good enough, meaning you have a strong technique.. maybe 3-4 years of experience.. you can try swing dance, and alot of other types of character dance.

I would say ballet, because it goes with classical music. And that is the kind of music usually in theater. I took a dance class, and I would say you should take jazz, tap, ballet, mabye hip hop. I agree with the girl above!

Definitely jazz.

Get a good background in the basics: ballet, jazz, modern, tap and even hiphop. Acrobatics is a plus.
