What kind of degree do u need to design roller coasters?

  • I was just wondering what kind of education/degrees would someone need to become a roller coaster designer? Any recommendations on schools for these? (preferably in California).

    You will need an engineering degree in either civil, structural, or mechanical. Personally, I'm in mechanical engineering to design rides. I chose mechanical because when I asked several engineers which would be best, they all told me mechanical.

Mechanical/Structural Engineering UCSB's engineering programs are nationally ranked. At the very least, they are right on par with USC's program. (UC system is far cheaper too.) Plus, would you rather live in South Central or on the beach in beautiful Isla Vista?

A mechanical engineering degree. You will need to understand many different sciences to enter this field. The University of Southern California has a great engineering reputation.

There are very few positions available for coaster designers. But it is possible for you to be able to design someday. Just focus on engineering in general. Preferably mechanical engineering if you are going to be builing roller coasters and designing them. Hope this helped

Roller coasters take lots of different engineers and artists to design. Mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, aerospace engineers, architects, uh... artists? Call up six flags and ask them who makes their roller coasters. call that company up and ask them what type of people they hire.
