Serious question: Should or should not schools allow Halloween Costume parties?

I.E: My school no longer allows us to celebrate Halloween by putting on costumes. My sister & her friend protested by wearing one each, but it didn't help.

Answer:
yes costume days should be allowed, but only if they encourage the girls to dress up as whores and sluts.

depends. because everyone should be allowed to express their own beliefs, but the thing is that people don't see the symbolism of halloween costumes, they just accept it as part of culture. i think people should be given more information about it to make them realise how it goes against the values of christianity (or in fact most any religion that they belong to), which would allow them to make a more informed choice. but i dont think they should be banned though, espically at schools with no uniform, because surely everyone has the right to express their own ideas through their appearance?

I really don't see why they shouldn't allow you to wear costumes on Halloween, except that some costumes may have been inappropriate (too gory or revealing). But inappropriate clothing is an issue all the time at schools, not just on halloween!! Pfft, maybe they're just being lazy, not wanting to go through the trouble of giving kids different clothing to wear or so. That is really ridiculous though. I admire your sister and her friend for standing up for themselves. Maybe more people wearing costumes would get the point across...although that may cause some trouble :P

I believe schools should allow Halloween costumes and they should allow parties. I know religions find it wrong and some people just say its a distraction to classmates education but I think it should be a treat for classmates they spend all year working there tails off studying give kids a break its an outlet for kids to be kids. We are always worried about drugs and underage drinking and things of that nature that when it comes to something so menial as a Halloween costume or party we can't see that it is just for fun and enjoyment and its one day out of the whole year? There are some really uptight ppl out there that need to revaluate there profession in the schools.

It's unfortunate but not really a surprise that your school might restrict costumes on campus. The typical reason given is that its 'disruptive' to the educational experience. All it takes is for one or two students to wear something considered by the faculty to be 'inappropriate' and the whole thing is nixed for everybody. I think its ok to ask your teachers why this decision was made. Depending on the answer, you might be able to convince them to reinstate the privelege if you and your fellow students could articulate and agree to clearly defined rules for what could be worn and could not during Halloween. Such an action would demonstrate maturity and a willingness to cooperate with the authority of the schools administration, which is most likely the basis for the problem.

Of course it should be allowed. This country has gone too far to be "Politically Correct" and "Morally Indignant". I don't understand the thought process of trying to "protect" everyone from everything..It's how you end up with a country of cowards, afraid of offending anyone. Its called LIFE for reason and people better get some coping skills to deal with it. Just as you have your beliefs 'Proud Christian' Halloween is thought to be a satanic holiday by extreme right fundamental Christians. Others see it as just a great way for kids to express themselves, remember our past, and be able to raid the kids trick or treat bags after bed....hey..is that a Butterfinger? Can I have it? :-)

Your sister and her friend protested? What happened to you? Show some guts! Go protest! and wear your your birthday suit as costume. I am sure you will definitely get your school's attention! ;) And yes, I do think schools should allow Halloween costume parties coz they rock!

Of course they should. Halloween has evolved to mean nothing but pumpkins and costumes and candy. Life is crummy enough without taking yet more fun out of it for children. I could even understand it if they said, "no 'dark' costumes" for children in the lower grades. (I've never known secondary school to have any Halloween events anyway, but that's always been about seeing the kids' age and not having parties in secondary school - not about Halloween, itself, anyway.)

The problem that seems to be today is that Halloween is becoming almost like a religious holiday. If the school does not wish for students to wear costumes then it must be respected. In all honesty people may be a little angry but is anyone having their personal beliefs struck down by this. If that is the case then some action could be taken, but logically it's only a day to go and collect free candy.

Schools in this area celebrate Halloween, but they aren't allowed to celebrate Christmas for what it is. There is no mention of Christ, but Santa is all over the place. Everything says "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas".
