Best inspiration for creating music?

When you are creating music, art, etc. what is your best source for inspiration?

  • Answer:

The work itself. I get ideas from everywhere, what I see, hear, feel, and then start conceiving a work - and often the work becomes something else as i'm working on it. So, the work itself ultimately has its say about what it wants to be. Any experienced artist will tell you that the work itself takes on a life of it's own as it is being created, it becomes, it evolves.

Probably the emotions for where we are at the moment is one of the greater sources indirectly if not directly. Different writers and artist have different processes that they put themselves through to get to the point of beginning to write or to create. It's all of what the experiences have been up to this particular point together with where the main focus is. Some of us are lucky in the sense that we have good imaginations and they wander. Allowing the imagination to take whatever direction and then to borrow from that direction works real well a lot of the time. It becomes such a rush to just let the thinking process flow wherever it will and observe it . That can be non stop entertainment in a way. The part that I like the least is when it comes time to harness that energy and do other types of critical thinking that involves numbers and codes and looking up bills that need to be paid and remembering dates for test when school was an issue. Every kind of thinking and calculating has a standard that applies to whatever direction you want your thoughts to go. When one wants to abandon those standards and indulge in what some might call free thinking, it's not all that easy to do sometimes. We become invested in how and where we spend our time. Where creativity is concerned it's a bit more about what we spend our time doing. What I've worked at is finding an acceptable way to go back and forth between different types of studying or reading or even thinking. It's when we get stuck in one or the other without a way to transition to the next or without an understanding of our own process. So I guess the answer would be knowing understanding and accepting my own process is the best source of inspiration.

For me it seems intuitive, and in many ways congruent with Avatar Miranda's perspective. .
