Do I need a second telephone line to use a fax machine from home?

    You can hook up the machine if you have a VOIP router and VOIP service like vonage, probably cheaper than a dedicated line anyway, just plug it into the back of the router. and check the service.

You need a phone line but it does not have to be dedicated. When the answering machine answers the phone it will recognize a fax tone and switch from answering machine to fax. If you pick up the phone and hear a fax tone depending on the phone it may switch automatically or you will have to push a phone key.

No. You can use your existing line but while sending a fax your line will be busy if someone tries to call.
