Should a sky box work without a viewing card?

just got a box no card (and a dish obviously!) just gives the message no satalite signal being recieved is this cos there's no card in or could the lnb be goosed?

You CAN receive a lot of the channels without a card, so your problem could be caused by several things: poor allignment, cable connections, etc. Check out the website, below......
