When did the Blu-ray player come out?

How come my DVD player won't play a bluray disk I bought?

    Because only blu ray players will play blu rays,however as said a blu ray will play dvds,but a dvd cant play blu rays so yes you NEED a blu ray player and they are getting cheaper everyday as said I saw a toshiba and rca for 39 dollars on amazon.com.

Yes you need a blu ray player,as a DVD player will not play blu rays but a blu ray will play all discs made including cds,dvds.blu ray,burned discs and even have smart apps and some have streaming also and do quite a bit more.Also the best resolution available now for TV playback is 1080P and blu ray is the best possible source out now.The DVD & Blu ray have totally different lasers and arent even close in quality plus it will upconvert regular dvds to near blu ray quality.They are getting so cheap now,I just saw a samsung highly rated 5 series blu ray on Amazon.com on sale for 59.99.There are even toshiba & off brands for under 30 or 40 bucks.The best rated now is panasonic but any blu ray will be a huge improvement over standard dvd,to enjoy the full benefits you should have an HDTV.

You need to buy a blu ray player. Usually around 100 dollars or so.

You'll need to get a blue ray player usually just 100$ or if you have a ps3 or Xbox you can play it on there

Dvd player plays dvd and audio cds. Bluray players play bluray disks. Dvd players do not play bluray.
