What is the best way to fix DVD scratches?

What's the best way to fix scratches on a CD or DVD?

  • Answer:

If you have a drill with a small buffer (like the kind you would use on your car only smaller) it will take the scratches out. This will make the CD kind of hot to touch and easy to break if done too long though so if you try it be careful. I agree with others who advised making a copy afterward since buffing the cd can weaken the material.

Try wiping it with glass cleaner and a paper towel from the center hole to the outer edge. Never wipe the DVD in a circular motion, and never rub the DVD. Good luck.

Spray Pledge (dusting spray) on the CD and then sorta wax it into the CD with a paper towel. The pledge will fill in the scratches and get it to play with less actual skips or stalls

Get a cleaning kit. Several are available at a reasonable price. And then get a burner and backup software to make working copies of your CD/DVDs.
