You may use the best software I have seen AVS Video Tools. It can convert to/from all key format, upload video or DVD directly to key portables like iPod, Sony PSP, Archos, Zen Creative, and mobiles. It can capture video from DV or webcams, TV tuners, DVB-T, DVB-S, transfer VHS tapes to DVD, remove commercials, edit video, copy and burn DVDs and video files: AVI (DivX, XviD, etc.), MP4, WMV, 3GP, 3G2, QuickTime (MOV, QT), SWF, DVD, VOB, VRO, MPEG 1,2,4, MPG, DAT, VCD, SVCD, ASF, H.263, H.264, RM, DVR-MS. StashSpace.Com does this and is running a promo where the transfer is FREE. (usually $7 per hour tape). Check them out at http://www.stashspace.com or give them a call.

It won't, I realize you want to do this yourself, but it is a very time consuming project to undertake. Taking that into consideration if you bring your tapes into Walmart they'll transfer them to DVD for pretty cheap and you get a motion thumbnail screen, chapter marks and a protective case for your all your discs. You also have the option to edit them however you like.

You could just use a DVD recorder/burner hooked up to a regular VHS player, and record the tape while it is playing. Simple and effective, but you may have trouble with copy protection.

nope, try this one: Panasonic DVD Recorder with VCR - DMR-EZ48 .

sorry nope the best way to convert VHS into DVD is to buy this: http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=vhs+converter+to+dvd&tag=googhydr-20&index=aps&hvadid=1099211501&ref=pd_sl_16464eqrpr_b look at some of the products out there

Not sure about that device but you can do this with StashSpace.Com You send them your tapes and they transfer them for you. It usually costs $7 per tape but they are running a promo where it is FREE with a premium account. A sweet deal, especially if you have a lot of tapes. I had them do my VHS tapes and it was great because I was able to view and share the content online and create custom DVDs. Check them out at http://www.stashspace.com or give them a call. Good Luck!

i could be wrong, but i don't think so. it didn't mention it at all in the features of the item. i know recording vhs onto dvd is possible, my mom has done it for me before, but i honestly think she got a dvd player/recorder and used a seperate vhs player. played the tape, and recorded on the DVD-W at the same time. hope this helps.
