What is the electron configuration of the P3-, Mo3+ ions?
-
How do I begin writing electron configuration for ions? I have what I think are answers but they dont seem right to me. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Answer:
The previous answers are wrong. Because you are removing Electrons you have to remove them from the 5s orbital first, then the 4d leaving: 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p6 4s2 3d10 4p6 5s0 4d3 It is not the same orbital diagram as Y this is because it is a transition metal. Think about it. 5s2 is an orbital outside of 4d so of course they are stripped first.
