Answer:
Don't bother paying for the reliable records search - just go to the state in which they died, and ask for copies of the death certificates with the appropriate state office. I have no idea how your sister passing, though, could require you to come up with a date of death for your parents. It's also rather odd, that you, the son, have no idea when your parents died. **You don't NEED to leave your home. Massachusetts will take orders over the internet, by fax, or by mail. You can go here: http://www.mass.gov/dph/rvrs and request a certified copy of each death certificate online. Everything these days is done online, and by mail. Fill out the form, you can even pay online with a checking account, and the state will mail you the death certificates. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.

where are the death certificates? You are really overthinking this.

Try searching some data bases of vital records for Massachusetts online to obtain their social security numbers. Then you can find where they died. Maybe your sister's case worker can help locate the information. You can check with the Public Health Depts. and see if they have death certificates on file. What you need for a copy of Death Certificate is their parents names and birth date and where they were born.

Usually the county clerk where they died would have that info, and could provide certified copies. And within 6 months to a year, the proper state agency should have that information, which I imagine is: http://www.mass.gov/?pageID=eohhs2terminal&L=5&L0=Home&L1=Government&L2=Departments+and+Divisions&L3=Department+of+Public+Health&L4=Programs+and+Services+K+-+S&sid=Eeohhs2&b=terminalcontent&f=dph_vital_records_g_about&csid=Eeohhs2

1. There is a reasonable good chance of finding at least one of them, maybe both, in the social security death index, which is free to search at familysearch.org and various other websites. 2. You can order a copy of the death record by mail from by following the instructions at http://www.mass.gov/?pageID=eohhs2terminal&L=4&L0=Home&L1=Consumer&L2=Basic+Needs&L3=Vital+Records&sid=Eeohhs2&b=terminalcontent&f=dph_vital_records_c_obtaining_copies&csid=Eeohhs2#bymail and paying $28 (takes approximately one month) or $37 (takes approximately two weeks) per record, by check or money order (no credit cards). 3. You can order a copy of the death record by telephone, fax, or Internet by paying $45 (per record) by credit card to VitalChek, http://www.vitalchek.com , phone 1-866-300-8535, fax 1-866-550-2067.

There's a couple of local possibilities I can think of. Try the County Court House in the county where they lived at the time of their deaths. They should have a records dept. there for death certificates. You could also try the records dept. of the cemetery where they're buried. How about their life insurance company or bank account records. Hope one of these can help. Good luck.
