If I understand this correctly, they opened a credit card with your name. You can call up and cancel the card. I'm not really sure, but I think it's you that has to press charges. Although, credit card fraud is a serious crime and if the police catch wind they may have no choice but to file a report and press charges. And sorry, but why would you not want to press charges? If this person is a supposed friend, why would you want to continue a friendship with someone who would steal from you? Sorry I couldn't help, but good luck!!!

A crime is a crime whether you report it or not. If the investigator determines that there was a crime committed, he can press charges, whether you want to or not. By the way, not pressing charges will earn you the opportunity for this person to steal from you again.

In the eyes of the law this person will be charged for fraud and is a jailable offence. The charges will be brought up by the credit card company once they got wind of the fraud. Whether you press charges or not will be your perogative but fraud is fraud. He/she will be brought before the court. This would deter others from doing likewise.

If they do a background check and find out that she has done it before, then yes I would think so. You need to report it. She's not your friend if she has been snooping through your things trying to get information on you so that she could go on a shopping spree and not pay the bill. Think about it she had to have your social security number and date of birth. No telling who else she's done it to. Any ways, your not a door mat. Don't let people walk all over you.
