Why are driving lessons getting more expensive?

I'm getting driving lessons.. my soon to be driving instructor emailed me asking if i want manual or automatic?

  • what is the difference.. what would you recommend.. i'm 17 btw and getting lessons in september hopefully

  • Answer:

i would do manual so when you go to buy a car you would have the choice of manual or auto. if you pass in auto you can only by an auto car. 30 lessons should be enough depends on how well you get on some take more time than others.

In the UK, if you pass your test in an automatic car, you will have to pass another test to be able to drive a manual. If you pass your test in a manual you will also be able to drive an automatic. 30 lessons should be plenty.

Manual is much simpler but in the UK when you've passed the test you are only qualified to drive automatics and would need to pass another, manual test, before you can drive a manual. Since the vast majority of cars in the UK are manual this can be a major problem so I advise go for the manual test. It will probably take about 30 lessons but don't prebook the whole lot. You might want to change instructor if things aren't going as well as you hoped so leave your options open. Good Luck.

Manual without a doubt. When you pass your test you can drive any c car, but if you pass in an automatic you can only drive auto`s. 30 lessons sould be enough.

the manual you shift by using a clutch pedal and brake the automatic shifts for you. if you take the time now to learn to drive the manual then you'll be able to drive any type vehicle you want to in the future. i would go with 40-50 hours to be sure i had a good start on learning.

I think you should go with manual, it basically means that you 'manually' change the gears, using a clutch. Automatic cars don't require a clutch. When you are learning it is difficult to learn in a manual car, however, once you can do it, it is like riding a bike and means that you can drive either a manual OR an automatic car, which makes buying a lot easier! If I were you, I would book 10 lessons, see how you get on with the instructor etc. and then book more if you feel ready, rather than potentially tie yourself up to one person/company! If you don't get on with manual, ask to change to automatic, but give it a fair chance :) Good luck xx

I would learn manual because when you get that automatic is very easy.30 OK.

I took a 30hr course when I was 14 and got my drivers license when I was 15. So, since you are 17, you should be able to understand enough physics to control a vehicle....right? If you don't know what the difference b/w automatic and manual is, go with automatic. Good luck.

Take the automatic - It gives you one less thing the worry about. There'll be time later to learn about manual

Automatic. Manual requres you to "manually" shift gears where Automatic cars do it for you. Most people cannot drive a Manual (aka Stick Shift) car.
