What is the red A on French cars?

What are you supposed to do if you are stuck at a red light with other cars and an ambulance comes up behind?

  • Are you just supposed to run the red light to let the ambulance go? what about the cars that are coming from the other direction?

    You sit. The ambulance driver will decide what maneuvers he can safely make. If the ambulance is still stuck behind you when the light changes, CAREFULLY pull through the intersection, pulling over to the right as you do, so the emergency vehicle can get past. If you start doing stuff like running the light, trying to force your way to the right, passing on the left, etc. you just confuse the situation for the driver.

If possible you should move to the right as much as you can, if you are truly stuck, just stay where you are. Don't move to left or the ambulance/police/fire driver won't be able to get around you.

You're supposed to stay there. You're taught to stop for emergency vehicles. People going the other way will stop and the emergency vehicle will just go around.

Sit still. The laws allow for emergency vehicles to do things you may not (such as running a red light). They will go around - if clear and safe.

Often they (The ambulance) will jump the median and go into the on coming lane to avoid all of the people. If not, than what you should do is run the RED, or turn to the LEFT or RIGHT on red it it is safe to (other than the fact its red). This is what I have always done and i have also seen people do this myself so I would assume that this is the normal and safest way to move the heck out of the way.
