Answer:
A couple of points to mention, plus links to some of my earlier answers that discussed these topics: ..."Varnish" is not a technical term...it just means to cover something with a clear material ("finish") and the materials could be a lot of different ones. "Glaze" can be a specific material used when firing earthen clay in a high-temp kiln, but otherwise it's just at term used loosely to denote various kinds of clear finishes/varnishes/whatever; however, some products may use the word "glaze" in their names (like Sculpey Glaze). ...Polyform makes two kind of clear finish: Sculpey Glaze (which comes in gloss and satin at least) and Studio by Sculpey Varnish (which comes only in gloss?). Those two will look the same once dry, but the Studio by Sculpey product is a "polyurethane" which is better than the regular acrylic of Sculpey Glaze in a few ways. Most polymer clayers use a clear polyurethane (from the hardware store) instead of the Studio by Sculpey polyurethane (which is fairly new) because it's much cheaper...the favorite brand/type is (Diamond) Varathane--indoor/gloss. ...Polymer clay needs no sealing or glossy finish at all, but if you want to use it (especially for things that should look glossy), that's fine. A high gloss shine can also be created on polymer clay by sanding and electric buffing it (or hand-buffing will yield a very nice sheen). >>> For more info on the various kinds of clear finishes that can be used on polymer clay when desired, check out this page at my polymer clay "encyclopedia" site and one of my previous answers here: http://glassattic.com/polymer/finishes.htm http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20101204220616AAKtpvt >>> For hanging small items of polymer clay, or for just connecting them to other things, the most common way is to use an eye pin (a straight wire with a loop at one end) plus a jump ring (a round ring of wire): http://www.google.com/images?q=jump+rings although other things and ways are possible too. ************** ADDED LATER **************** The "rings" used for the stitch markers in your link are actually tiny *double* rings called split rings: http://www.google.com/images?q=split+rings rather than the single rings usually called jump rings. They're the same thing functionally but since they're double-layered they're more secure and can't just be pulled off the thing they're connecting to if that's ever a possibility (often used for keyrings). There's a lot of info about ways to do all of those in my previous answers ot these questions, which should also include links for more info to a few pages at my site: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20110505215212AAEPrhi http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20111015084400AARI94L http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20111003092108AAYpV8Q >>>If you're interested in making miniature polymer clay items including foods, check out at least this page too if you didn't visit it from the "charms" answers: http://glassattic.com/polymer/miniatures.htm HTH, Diane B.
