    Actually, broadening/improving one's language skills is a very broad concept, it can be done in more than one ways at the same time which is highly recommended. One can NOT become better ONLY in one area e.g. speaking, one MUST improve skills in ALL dimensions of the language! Learning language well requires being as active as possible and making the learning fun for oneself. Taking lessons is always important, but equally important are these: 1) Listen/watch: Listen to internet radio stations like BBC, watch TV shows in English (use only subtitles, NOT voice dubbing!), etc. 2) Write/communicate: Try to find discussion forums from the web about things that you find interesting (music/various artists, hobbies, etc.) and start communicating there with other people using English. Start using instant messaging systems in case you find some new friends or start emailing them. 3) Buy yourself a proper dictionary, and each time when you see a strange word that you do not understand, look it up. The main point in ANY language learning is to make it as fun as possible for yourself. Try to find topics that INTEREST you, read online newspapers, listen to BBC/NBC and other radio stations online, if you find a discussion forum for e.g. your favourite hobby or your idols in music do participate there, etc. I'm sorry there is no easy way out with this, one really must develop language skills in ALL these language "levels" or dimensions in order to reach better language skills!! Last but not least: NEVER EVER use ANY online translators, they are nothing but utter rubbish!! English is practically EVERYWHERE in the online world these days, you just have to use your imagination to find it! Good luck!!

really, the only way to become fluent in any language is through use. You just have to practice, listen, pay attention, and try things. Nice people may help you. get a girlfriend (or boyfriend) that speaks the language you want to learn. Watch tv and listen to the radio in the language you want to learn. How do you get good at anything? Practice.

You can do all those things...but the best thing is to go to an english speaking country and not to be harsh to anyone you meet...but only hang out with people who dont speak your lang....best way to do it is to be stuck HAVING to speak it...that way you make yourself learn. Best wayto learn a lang....books and classes are ok....but you have to just talk to someone and learn from them....knowing how to say " I like the color red!" is GREAT...but your not going to be saying that all that much.

Well I started when I was 12 and now I am 70. I have been a factory worker and as such I suppose I am fluent when I speak.A lawyer would do better.My friend -one word at a time and one day at a time. God bless you.

What is your native language? I'm just guessing, but you sound eastern European. My best advise would be complete immersion. Make friends with native speakers, listen/watch English language TV, radio, movies. Get into the habit of walking around and identifying any object you see with an English word...i.e. stoplight, mirror, tree, door, light switch. READ a lot and get a good dictionary and grammar guide. I also found that learning more about my native language, helped my understanding.

one thing that will help is if you have any native english speakers around and only talk english with them. with some time you will get it all right.
