It's not all about the car or the size of the engine for an elderly car. The registered keeper (the driver) should have an unblemished driving history too - no points on your licence - no road traffic convictions - insurance companies rely on your Post Code area too. At 17 years of age , you will not have a driving history to talk about , teenagers are notorious for having crashes because they don't understand the rules of the road and too immature to realise the consequences. Put it another way , very expensive. It usually takes about 5 years to build up your NCB (no claims bonus) usually called a no claims discount. It also depends on your maturity , or lack of , if you are about to go 'boy racing' in the old jalopy and have a road traffic accident through incompetence , your licence will be taken from you immediately.

Hiya, ok i've just insured my w reg vw polo se 1.4 16 valve and it cost me £391.00 and i have no NCB. The most expensive i got was £1100.00!!! 1st Central Insurance was the cheapest onlien on Saturday. Good luck xx

What engine size ? try looking at Direct Line, that's who my son insured with when he was 17.
