Science experiments for high school students?

What are some good computer science experiments for high school students?

  • I am a high school student who participates in USACO and am really interested in computer science. I am wondering what kind of research work can I do in the field of Computer Science. I observe that many of the Intel Science winners are taking up theoretical math and computer science which makes me wonder how they come up with their topics.

  • Answer:

I think if a high school student is interested in computer science and have knowledge on any programming language(C, python etc.) then he can try to construct the sorting codes like bubble sort, merge sort, quick sort, insertion sort and others. He can also try to construct small system like data handling of small system using file.

Other answers

If you're into rigorous theory and math, then security and cryptography are two really exciting areas in which to perform research. Otherwise, AI/Machine Learning has a lot of research potential for young students; for example, the Google Science Fair winner this year leveraged neural networks to create a breast cancer detector whose capabilities exceed current market solutions. Whatever you do, be sure that it's interesting to you; ultimately, the passion you have for the project will determine its trajectory.
