Why do car dealerships always advertise bogus prices just to get you to buy a car?
-
I always hear "2007, $199/mo, no money down!" And then when you get there it is a whole different story. Can't they get in trouble for doing that?

Answer:
You answered your own question. They do it to get you there. No, they will not get into trouble because there's always a fine print in their ads (something like "Only one car at this price" or "Plus this or that" or something else like this to cover their... you know what.)

sometime when they advertise like that , in the fine print, it would say only one car is available at that price. Unless they advertise and there was no such car, then they will be in trouble. Its a way to get you in the dealership. I know cuz I work in one =)

So many places do this to draw you in and then don't deliver as you expected. It worked though didn't it? They got you in? That's ALL the point of that concept is. They can't get in trouble, because technically they aren't lying to you to get you in. It's just that much of the time there's many terms and conditions to what they are offering that make it difficult for you to get.

Not if its possible to get that deal, but they are probably telling you the deal a person with good credit could get. It all depends on your credit score, the lower that is the worse of a deal you will get.

If you read closely it probably says in the fine print something about "credit worthiness", or mentions your credit approval somehow. That price would be with ideal (read 800 score) credit. Look for all the little * things and search the fine print for them. Most importantly though...you still left the dealer with a car didn't you?

Cause anything they can do to get people to come in and look, means the possibility of a sale. If you weren't interested in buying a car, you probably wouldn't be checking the prices to begin with. They figure they can talk you into buying one anyway. Many times if you read the small print you will get details that explain that you can't take the prices seriously. They probably can't get in trouble if they have ever sold just one car at the price they advertised.

thats why they have the small print in the commercials. and usually that deal is for people with like perfect credit.

There are a lot of slimebags in that profession and I think the larger dealerships are often the culprits.
