Once again, I compeletely agree with you. It seems you can't go to a movie anymore without seeing this. It is uncomfortable for parents taking kids and kids going with parents. Maybe some people enjoy it, but I don't see how. Furthermore, look at our TV's look at the garbage that is being put on TV now adays. It is crazy. Another issue I have right now is the fact that every single movie has swear words from end to the next. It is all you hear anymore. And so unneccessary. Maybe we have worse things to worry about now and this isn't a big concern. But why is this needed? I think it is just ridicuolous. It's like at one point we look at the people in todays world and see all this crime and violence and bad stuff happening. But then our forms of entertainment are just as bad and if anything, almost promoting this type behavior. I think something needs to be done about this. Then we wonder what is happening to our youth ?????? It's craziness I say, pure craziness.

A writer adds a sex scene simply because "it sells" nowadays, but mainly because that's where the characters have been led. If you have two leads in your story who are both male and female (or of the same sex and homosexual, though that isn't as accepted as "m/f het"), and they go through an enormous journey involving a variety of adventures along the way, you have to have a dammed good reason why these two won't have sex, ESPECIALLY if they're in a "wait-it-out" situation where they've got nothing to do. An example of said "good" reason: in the series "Firefly" and its movie counterpart, "Serenity," creator/writer/director, Joss Whedon, never had the main character, Mal, make love to Inara, one of the female leads, even though they were obviously in love with each other, and there were certainly a few chances. However, Joss DIDN'T give them an "it" scene, instead leaving them in one of the final scenes on the ship, talking, and saying their goodbyes -- but NOT without a sense of future possibility. In conclusion: writers don't just add a sex scene because they want impress their publisher or their audience. They do it because that's what their story is, and that's what life is. Watching a movie is supposed to be like watching life; don't expect that there will never be a sex scene in a movie that you go to see, just like you won't expect it in real life.

Mainly because they know most people who go to the movies are on "dates"...male female/ male male/ female female and a few other reasons along those lines sex sells... and they want people to be happy an orgasm...makes people happy (yes there is such a thing as a bad one).. but they like people happy.. though if you want a good movie that is not filled with that... watch dog soldiers

You need to broaden your horizons. There are many many great movies that are not formularic. Very few come out of Hollywood though. Quit going to movies at the mainstream theatres.

It is human nature to be attracted to things of a sexual nature. We all have sexual desires, and the scenes in movies play to that desire. Additionally, we also (as humans) have tendencies to commit violent acts and other things which are incorporated into movies. An example would be people slowing down in traffic to view the scene of a traffic accident. These themes (sex and violence) play to human emotion and desires. For this reason, Hollywood will continue to include these themes in movies. Of course it is advisable to use the moving rating system to choose which films you view. In the United States, the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) is an independent association which reviews and rates films. The MPAA lists it's reasons for rating movies with the rating. And example would be: Rated R for Explicit Sexual Content and Graphic Violence. Choosing films which have been rated without any time of sexual content advisory would be advisable if you would prefer not to view films with sexual content.

usually, i wud say that in a director's or screenwriter's perspective, its not just another scene to turn on the viewers. sex shud not be looked at in such a shallow way, especially in sum movies (not all). i gotta admit, in most its kinda pointless, or just another way of, ok..they like each other, now they shud have sex!! but in sum movies its a more physical way of expressing emotion, loosening sexual tension, if its a scene where the two are in love, it could be very powerful in terms of meaning and depth.

your right.... i went to the cinema recently to watch underworld evolution and although it was nice to see kate beckinsale in the nud ...it was like WHAT THE HELL why was she in the nud in a vampire 'v' werewolf film ....i reckon thats pushing the sex scene too far...

Personally, I think its because everybody will talk about it later. Its a good marketing ploy - you may not remember the movie, but you'll remember the sex scene - whether you think it was great or horrible, and you'll talk about it with others.

The entertainment world is more competitive than it was a long time ago. We have more types of media now, and all are trying to compete for attention. Sex is everywhere because the bar has been raised by the other media to include it. We didn't have big screen TVs, Internet, digital radio, video games or other forms of visual media, so there wasn't a need to "sell" something as primal as sexuality in order to attract attention.
