Ladies: If children are a gift from God what is the purpose of birth control??

Becuase they're not a "gift" from "God". Children are wonderful and amazing, but not to be taken lightly. Without birth control every poor redneck in this world would have 20+ kids living in poverty giving absolutely nothing back to society. Is that the kind of world you want to live in? Have children wisely and only if you can afford them and take care of them.

Sometimes people aren't ready for the gift. Birth control is a matter of personal choice and should be decided upon by the individual.

yes. children are a gift from god. however if you are to receive asuch a special gift, you need to be able to give it the best of care right? so birth control is not permanently taking the gift away. it's just helping you time it right, so that gift shows up when you're ready, and with the right person.

Protection against over population.

Well it's been a long time since I was on birth control, however I can only speak for myself. I went on it because I wanted to have sex, but not have a child at the moment. Your right about how women say children are a gift from God, because they are. I was young and wanted to be responsible and not have children that I couldn't afford. I have a 9 year old son now and I'm glad I used birth control because raising children are a responsibility bigger then you can imagine, especially if you don't have children. I would rather see women protect themselves then get pregnant and have a child they can't raise and push off on family or the state. This is my opinion.

My mom is a OBGYN and she thinks its up to the person having the baby, not God. So if she wants to take birth control, more power to her.

If God didn't want us to have bc then why is it around? Doesn't that play into it too? Maybe when we were given free will to choose our own path, god gives us tools to help us or possible hinder us. If he or she took the time to create us and the universe why wouldnt they just keep on creating. I would have a dozen kids if I could. Money, time and loss of my sanity prevents me from doing this.

There is such thing as too much of a good thing! Some people do not have the financial means to support many children. And some people just SHOULDN'T have children. If children are gifts from God, they should be respected as such. It is an insult to God to have a child that isn't wanted or you don't have the ability to care for. God's children should never be neglected, hungry, or scared. Birth control is a way to make sure they won't be. Perhaps if more people USED it, those gifts from God would not be wandering the streets, hungry, beaten, scared, and so forth. Birth control has been around since the beginning of time. It isn't a new thing at all. Why is it such an issue now?

Some people just don't want children. Look at all the people who abuse them and abandon them? I personally got my tubes tied after my second child because he has neurofibromatosis and another child could have it as well. I'm lucky my son only has the learning dissabilities because of it another one could have tumors!!! Why would I want to knowingly put an innocent child through that?
