Does earth have the perfect distance from our sun to sustain life, or could it get better?

Our earth is far/close enough to the sun to sustain life, but I wonder if the earths life contents could improve (More jungles, more animals, less droughts) if the earth was ...show more

Answer:
Scientists call that 'Habitable Zone' or 'Goldilocks Zone' where a planet can get the Suitable Life forming conditions with respect to the formation of Liquid Water, Nitrogen and even Atmospheric properties... Unlike Mars, which is believed that it could have had Liquid water on its surface which went to abundance because of its extended distance from the Star, our Earth is at the perfect distance from its parent star the Sun. Nature gave us the right condition to live a better life, but we Humans spoil our own planet by calling it Steps for the Improvement of the Mankind! We do even take the rights of the Animals to live freely by doing harm to the Nature. Green House Effect rise to the new level as no one cares to take measures to Control it, today, the CO2 emission can be seen easily in almost anything. It causes the Globe to get heated inside the core as well as on the Atmosphere making Earth Vulnerable to Disasters. The Natural disasters are not very Natural! but we are the Reason behind it. The Ozone Layer deployment was found in the Arctic Circle by Amateur Scientists a long time ago, in 2010 the Ozone layer deployed for the maximum level... Today in recent experiment to measure Ozone layer, it is found that O3 (Ozone) is getting back to Normal State, not by our Care of Earth, but it is the Way of Nature to heal itself.

We are not in a perfectly circular orbit so, the Earth is many distances from The Sun.
Those are good answers except the Mercedes. Perfect for who or what? The Eskimos could live a bit closer to the North pole if Earth was a few miles closer to the Sun about January 3d. But it would be a disadvantage to people and creatures living near the Equator. Neil
Our earth is a place where life exists as we know it. That means, when you look in the mirror, you are looking at the end product of gods creation. There is nothing better than us that exists, and what ever does exists that is better than us, will never be able to reach us. All that can reach us is our evolving to what cannot reach us. Along the way, when we make mistakes that turn parts of our planet into places that life cannot exist, we can rest assured that other places on our planet are thriving just as we thrived. When events from gods creation turns parts of our planet into places that cannot sustain life as we know it, we as a people know that location, and we can go there and build on top of it. The only way life gets better for most people is, by doing something that they think is the right thing to do, such as, what they consume to continue their existence. :) The sun shines on everything in our solar system that is not in the shadow of another item. This heat is one of the building blocks needed to stimulate life.

You're looking at it from the wrong perspective. Life is perfectly adapted to Earth's current position. If Earth's distance from the Sun was altered then life would have to adapt to the new conditions or die. There are inner and outer limits beyond which any life would struggle to survive no matter how gradually such a change was made. This zone is the 'habitable zone' or so-called 'Goldilocks Zone' (because it's neither too hot nor too cold but just right)

Maybe it could have a thermometer. So long as it's in the habitable zone and life develops then the life will evolve to the distance frm the Sun so it isn't the perfect distance, it's just that we've evolved to this distance.

We are perfectly aligned, but humans made lots of changes to earth and because of us there aren't so much jungles and other things. If we leave Earth,it can restore everything but we don't let it. The distance can change from the orbit of Venus until the Mars' orbit. And we are somehow in the middle.
If I was the Earth, I'd find that question very insulting Look at all the other planets, they got nothing Earth has had varying orbits and varying axial tilts, and its magnetic field is constantly changing polarity. It has been completely iced over several times, and it has been a watery, tropical jungle several times. It has had an atmosphere without free oxygen, and an atmosphere with free oxygen. Through all these challenges Earth has remained a hospitable place for life. But all you can do is turn up your nose and say, what can the Earth do better. You're lucky the Earth doesn't just sprout a volcano under your feet and vaporize you.

Hell yes it could be better! If earth was just 7.8 miles closer to the sun, I would have a Mercedes-Benz and two penises! F-ing cosmos!
