Some places (unfortunately I don't know where these places are) will pay you for your blood, but most people give blood willingly on a volunteer basis. I first decided to become a blood donor out of response to 9/11, and have been donating regularly for the past 5 years. It's best to donate blood this way, as far as I'm concerned, because your blood is almost certainly going somewhere it is needed, and besides, it could be someone you know and/or love who'll need a transfusion. It could even be you.

Blood banks do not pay donors for blood. However, some private serological companies pay for blood plasma donations. In our area, you can donate blood plasma if your blood contains antibodies that are used to treat people. For example, Rh negative mother's can donate their blood plasma because of the antibodies they have. This is used to allow Rh negative mothers to give birth to Rh positive children without rejecting them. In our area, a pint of blood plasma usually will net you around $25. Donating plasma is easier than donating whole blood because they take the plasma but give you back your blood cells. This allows you to donate more often. I have a friend that donates plasma regularly and earns a couple hundred dollars a month.

Most blood banks are non profit and you dont get paid. Red Cross doest pay you. You do however get paid if you donate plasma. It could range from $50 to $300

it is illegal for money to be paid to donate your blood for the purpose of clinical use. it is not illegal to sell blood products and marrow for research purposes. the red cross will not pay you unless you happen to have an extremely rare blood type and not necessarily AB-. there are other blood groupings that are very rare, like 5 people in the world have it (H null). chances are you dont have it. do it cause you want to help someone. if you do find a place that pays for marrow, have fun with the 4-5 inch 10 gauge needle times three in your pelvis.

If you donate blood at the Red Cross or other publicly funded organization you don't get paid. If you go to a blood bank or biological company you can be paid for your blood. Just look in the phone book.

no, not in most cases.
