Depends where u work..and what kind of job

The ask should be related to the value you bring the company... not public opinion polls.

Start with the increase in cost of living if you don't get automatic adjustments, either the local or national if you can'f find the local. Lately the national has been roughly 3% a year. Then see if your industry has a typical seniority differential - that is the amount of salary increase found for staying with the company for another year or hiring someone with ten years experience vs hiring with 5 years experience. I worked for a company that gave 5% each year and resented that they never recognized my good years or bad (although in the early years there were bonuses during good store years)

The times have changed ,,, we never used to ask ,,, we worked hard, and it went from there, sometimes I see hands stuck out for coins and treats that should not be there, land that I love

You should start at about twice what you think you can can get. Like say you think that you can maybe get 5% then try to get 10%. When you say we it makes me think you are in a union and if so then a bargaining commitee we be in negotiations to get you a good contract.

7%..........when offered a position or asking for a raise........10% would be to much and you honestly don't want to ask for anything less. I am a firm believer in asking for salary raises if you are exceeding expectations........the worst that could happen you would be in the same position you are in now.....Good Luck.....

depends on industry, a couple percent is usual in order, nad put it in line wit previous ones, and make sure you work hard long before asking so they don't see a sudden upswing in your work, then ask for a raise, cause in my experience, teh dude that does that, then goes back to slackign off (not sayinng yorua slacker) right after he gets ther aise.
