Have you ever been ripped of by buying from eBay?

Has anyone else been ripped of buying on EBay?

  • Sent a postal order as requested got it crossed in the guys name now he is saying he has not recieved it,he now wants another one ,no way,can i find out if there is a way of seeing if ...show more

  • Answer:

I'm having this prob right now, the seller is "no longer a registered user"... Go to your bank and explain your situation (if it was a check), If it was a money order, go to where you bought it from and have them trace it, they can tell for sure if he got it.. if in the future this happens to you and you used paypal, they have a dispute form thing, to get your things back. After you find out if he got it, cashed it and has the money, contact ebay about it, give them your item # and explain what has happened, give them any info. you find about your payment and.. they will help out in getting your money back or making him send you your things. Hoped this helped some =)

I don't know how you would find out if he cashed it. It is possible he is telling the truth. I'd always use paypal. Then you know the money has been payed.

i have never been ripped off on ebay. i sent my postal orders by recorded delivery. it does cost that little bit extra. but well worth it, as tfhe post office track the delivery and can tell you without doubt whether your letter has reached dits destination...be advised, hold all your reciepts accordingly...they do codme in useful.

If you have purchased Postal Order from Post Office /Postal Service and you have retained the counter foil, you can write to the postal authorities (issueing office) and verify. If it is stll outstanding you can get a refund. If he has encashed it you have to resort to legal measures to recover the amount.Sendinmg a second PO is not wise without knowing the fate of the first one.

Use PayPal in future and also check the sellers details. If you click on the username icon and look at their feedback it'll give a good indication of their integrity. The Post Office will be able to verify (I think).

Email ebay and advise them what has happened. You can also go to the post office, the postal orders have refernce numbers on very much like cheques do. They should be able to tell you if this has been drawn or cashed. The bad thing is that ebay will not get involved due to the fact that you are not insured (you are only insured up to £500 vis paypal) I have had this problem douzens of times hence why I have stopped using ebay for this reason. It is sad that certain people can spoil it for everyone. If the seller is no longer registered on ebay I would be reluctant to send another postal order to him. You could consider small claims court if the amount you paid was substantial but again this could cost you money so you need to be aware of this. I'm sorry to hear about your circumstances and I hope this helps! x

Nothing you can do about it honey, I know that isn't what you wanted to hear. Annoying hah! I ordered jewellry and never received it, and the seller disapeared off the face of the planet (Surprise Surprise), Luckily I paid by PayPal and got the money back. You can get some good deals on Ebay but you do need to set up a PayPal account to protect yourself. I reckon you learnt a good lesson into using Postal Orders, I hope it wasn't too much of an expensive lesson mind. In the meantime speak to the postoffice staff, maybe they have someway of seeing if it's been cashed. Big Smiles x

Yes I always use paypal, but that doesnt stop all the problems. I have bought a few smaller items where the seller has sent something that is complete crap, so incredibly unfit for purpose that its laughable. These items had a low price but pricey postage, which I thought was a marketing wheeze or they were just trying not to pay too much in Ebay fees. The scam is that you complain and they offer you a refund but you only get the item price not the postage and you have to pay return postage yourself. So its not worth it, and they know that. And if you send the item back i reckon they just put it back into the system and send it to another poor fool. Nevermind the scammers dont always have it their own way.... http://www.zug.com/pranks/powerbook/

I use Ebay alot, use your Barclay card through paypal, if you have to trace the person it would have to go into his bank account , you then can get B/C pay you back while they chase the person , with him drawing it they have a record and for him to have an account they have the adress of the acount holder
