Christians: When you say you are saved, what are you saved from exactly?

A question for the Christians that say if you ask for forgiveness ...or accept god/jesus... youll be saved?

  • what if you do such right before committing suicide? keeping in mind that the last thing you will have then done on earth is sin whats gods playbook say for that one?

  • Answer:

Suicide is a sin like any other sin. Jesus Christ died on the cross for ALL your sins, so if you truly believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, you are forgiven. Period.

Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are. 1 Corinthians 3:16-17

Hi, We are not saved when we ask for forgiveness but when Jesus died for our sins. When he died, all of our sins were crucified and judged with him. All true believers will be saved whatever they do whenever they do it even right before death. Regards, Emmanuel

There is a decent answer here: Saved me a lot of time. Answer: The Bible mentions six specific people who committed suicide: Abimelech (Judges 9:54), Saul (1 Samuel 31:4), Saul's armor-bearer (1 Samuel 31:4-6), Ahithophel (2 Samuel 17:23), Zimri (1 Kings 16:18), and Judas (Matthew 27:5). Five of them were wicked, sinful men (not enough is said regarding Saul's armor-bearer to make a judgment as to his character). Some consider Samson an instance of suicide (Judges 16:26-31), but Samson's goal was to kill the Philistines, not himself. The Bible views suicide as equal to murder, which is what it is—self-murder. God is the only one who is to decide when and how a person should die. According to the Bible, suicide is not what determines whether a person gains entrance into heaven. If an unsaved person commits suicide, he has done nothing but “expedite” his journey to hell. However, that person who committed suicide will ultimately be in hell for rejecting salvation through Christ, not because he committed suicide. What does the Bible say about a Christian who commits suicide? The Bible teaches that from the moment we truly believe in Christ, we are guaranteed eternal life (John 3:16). According to the Bible, Christians can know beyond any doubt that they possess eternal life (1 John 5:13). Nothing can separate a Christian from God’s love (Romans 8:38-39). If no “created thing” can separate a Christian from God’s love, and even a Christian who commits suicide is a “created thing,” then not even suicide can separate a Christian from God’s love. Jesus died for all of our sins, and if a true Christian, in a time of spiritual attack and weakness, commits suicide, that would still be a sin covered by the blood of Christ. Suicide is still a serious sin against God. According to the Bible, suicide is murder; it is always wrong. Serious doubts should be raised about the genuineness of faith of anyone who claimed to be a Christian yet committed suicide. There is no circumstance that can justify someone, especially a Christian, taking his/her own life.

We are not saved because we are sinless. We are saved because we are forgiven. Stay with Jesus and you will be saved

For one thing, you don't decide when you get saved on your own time, it is when the Holy Spirit is calling you. If you reject His call long enough, He may not call you again, because your heart may have become to hard because of sin ( Hebrews 3:11-13 ). The bible says now is the day of salvation, now is the accepted time. Don't wait until you are considering suicide, it may be too late, and when conviction is on you to be saved, that is the time to respond. Romans 10:9-10 is your answer.

Part of accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior is repenting of sin. If you fully intend to sin immediately after saying your prayer, then you are operating under a false pretense and shouldn't expect God to honor your request. As part of accepting salvation, you would have to repent of your intent to harm yourself.

Man O' God

Asking forgiveness is not enough for salvation. You must REPENT (ask for forgiveness of your sins) and BELIEVE in He whom the Father sent - i.e. Jesus Christ, the Son, as ONLY Savior, only Hope to Salvation. If you truly believe in Him, you will not commit suicide. For me suicide is an act of faithlessness.

Jesus is my Savior

Can't do it. If you want to exploit that loophole, you'll need to find a slow way to die then "repent". Unfortunately God knows your heart and mind and every thought you have and have ever had and he knows the difference between honest repentance and false repentance. That being said, life is good, it's fun so if someone wants to check out early there's something seriously wrong with them and they should be seeking medical and/or psychiatric help in addition to spiritual counselling.
