High school community service ideas for a shy person....?

    How about something with animals? Volunteer at your local pound and feed and walk the animals and clean the cages. You could also try the library. They'd probably be thrilled to have someone shelve books and you're not supposed to be talking and socializing in the library. You could also talk to an elementary teacher. Offer to bring home materials that need to be made (they often have things that are laminated that need to be cut, or art projects that need to be prepped, or things like that) or grade papers, update their web site, etc. Another option might be a thrift shop. They often need people to sort, clean, and fix things in the back area.

Doing community service is going to draw you out of your shell, as communication with the service providers and clients is a must. With that said, I also like to steer away from people. I also took a class that required community service hours. I ended up volunteering for Habitat for Humanity. It was a great experience. Communication with large groups were minimal...and by the end of the day I had done things I never thought I would do, like putting up tresses, and shingling a roof ( I am afraid of heights). I felt good after the build, felt like I really did something worthwhile. Give it a try:)
