  • Answer:

When a cancer metastases (spreads to other areas) it doesn't become a new cancer. It is the same kidney cancer in a different place. They can tell from the cells, what type of cells the originally were. I am so sorry about you friend - that sounds like it was a tough one.

Sorry about your friend's husband, but what does it really matter where the cancer originated? It wouldn't ever have changed a thing or the outcome of the cancer.

There may be a very specific test to analyze the cancer cells but with the patient already passed, where would the samples come from? Does it really matter now? Or is this just out of curiosity? It makes more sense that it originated in the kidneys and traveled thru the lymphatic system to the bones.

poor guy, sounds pretty bad. I assume they can tell by the type of cells. My mother in law developed a brain tumor, she had breast cancer and a melanoma-they told us the tumor was form melanoma, not breast cancer because of the cells
