Well its better you enter late into the fray and wait till the last minute. Keep a track of all the listings that you are interested and bid on some of them, while wait on a couple of them. If you are starting out its better you simply watch the pattern of bid. If the product is available in other stores, you need to keep an eye on the price offered by other stores and bid accordingly.

You can ignore 90% of what people tell you. There is only one way to win an auction, have the highest bid !!!!!!!!! There is no way you can make sure you win other than bidding way over what the item is worth. The bids you see give no indication of what the bidders maximum is. You need to realise just how ebay works. You see say a laptop that you would like. It is getting near to the end of the listing and has had 10 bids with 5 separate bidders. Now each of those bidders has given ebay a maximum they are bidding to so the current highest bidder has put in a higher maximum than the other 4. You have watched it for a while and it has sat on 95 quid all day so you think i will get that and you put a bid in 5 seconds before it finishes saying that you will pay up to £125.50. Suddenly you see the bid figures changing and the auction ends and at first you think you have got it but then you are informed that you were outbid and the auction has now ended. What you had no way of knowing was that the person who previously had that 95 quid highest bid had given ebay a maximum bid of £150. ebay bid for you just enough to beat the current highest bid. As soon as your 125.50 bid went in ebay instantly [in a fraction of a second] raised that persons bid to £126.50 and you lost out. Bidding in the last few seconds or using a Sniper program to do it for you certainly does not leave people time to put a better bid in from scratch but if the previous highest bidders hidden maximum is more than your bid you lose.

The best way to win an eBay auction is to bid a lot higher than the asking price. So for something selling for £20, put in a maximum bid of £30 (if you can afford it). That will automatically increment your bid by 50p each time someone else bids up to £30 and you will definitely get it for around £25 when the others will drop out.

buy it now is the only sure way. You could open two browser windows 1 to see others bid and one to bid yourself with the bid screen already open. Then in the last few seconds you have less clicks to make a bid than anyone not doing this. Not sure fire but its that or buy now. Alternately enter your max bid amount with your actual max bid for the item .

A few minutes before the auction is due to end go to the item and watch it - keep refreshing the page - if somebody puts in a new bid then you need to put in a higher one. Some people can put a bid in literally 30 secs before the auction is due to end so you need to keep watching to the very end.

Just book mark the page, dont bid, then wait til the final 20 seconds before the bid ends and bid £10,000 and then your bid will always be a bit more than the highest bidder, if its more than you want to pay, just dont pay it and make a new ebay account.
