    Overall performance I would say Saving Mr. Banks but then the last scene in Captain Phillips is hands down the best performance in a scene in 2013 by any actor (possibly the best scene performance in his career!!) 61eR

Although I have not seen Saving Mr. Banks yet, I agree with Davis Yik that the last scene in Captain Phillips is what sets Tom Hanks apart from most other actors of this generation.  As we saw in Philadelphia, he can convey a ton emotion and deliver a scene without saying much, if anything at all.  My personal favorite Tom Hanks scene is when he has left Denzel Washington's office in Philadelphia after Denzel has said that he does not have a case.  The look of despair mixed with "I have to buck up and carry on" is why he is my favorite actor.  Also, not many other actors could have pulled off Cast Away.  :)
