If IIIT-Hyderabad qualifies as a private university (they were set up as a public private partnership, but they seem to be largely autonomous now), that's a good option. In fact, they're probably the best institute for computer science education as of now. They have a very comprehensive undergraduate CSE program, like most of the other IIITs. They also seem to churn out some of the nation's best programmers, if you were to judge by rankings in contests such as the ACM ICPC.

I agree with - the top colleges in India do a reasonable job of inculcating CS knowledge and theory, but most of them are not particularly good as far as focus on fostering programming skills and enthusiasm for coding. That part depends upon how much you motivate yourself, how much time you spend doing "hobby" programming on your own time, and if you're lucky, you'll get profs in one or two courses who will do a great job of motivating you and/or giving a great programming project. In short, just pick a good college which will ensure that you get a decent education in the theory of programming, and then learn programming skills and enthusiasm for coding by yourself using the internet. Below is the previous version of my answer that has lost all relevance because the question has changed. The question originally ended with "My primary goal is to do an MS in an ivy-league university" and this was my response to that. If your primary goal is to get selected at a top US university for MS, then your best bet is to get into a brand name Indian college and do well academically there. More accurately, go to a college whose name the selectors in US colleges would have heard of. Most accurately, go to a college from which a significant number of students end up in top US universities for an MS on a regular basis. Most of the top US colleges keep track of which Indian colleges send them good students, and for each college they have an idea of what GPA or percentage should be considered good for that college. Thus, they would have a list like (GPA of 9.0 in IIT-B is good, 72% and above from COEP/PICT Pune is good) etc. Most of the time, they will look at Indian students admitted in their department in the previous years and whether those students did well. So, the most reliable indicator of whether you will be admitted to a US college is to check if someone from your college with roughly the same academic performance as you got admitted in the 2 or 3 years.

I cannot really recommend any, because although I have seen folks from NITK, IIT, IIIT and a couple of other institutes (I interviewed several) - Computer Science knowledge seems to be more dependent on the persons interest and passion than which course s/he went through.

Well, I would say modify above question asking "Which are good Non Government Institutes for CS Education in India?" The reason for suggesting above modification is, I want to suggest IIIT-H and BITS. IIIT-H is neither government nor private. It's Not For Profit Public Private Partnership Autonomous Self Governing Deemed University. They say that it's best best choice for CS in India after old 5 IITs (B,M,D,K,Kgp). So, preference list for grad/undergrad studies would be as follow, 1) IIIT-H - Not For Profit Public Private Partnership Autonomous Self Governing Deemed University 2) BITS - Not For Profit Private Autonomous Self Governing Deemed University 3) IIIT-B - Not For Profit Public Private Partnership Autonomous Self Governing Deemed University 4) DA-IICT - Not For Profit Private Autonomous Self Governing Deemed University Moreover, excelling in Computer Science is different compared to very core engineering subjects like Civil, Mechanical and Electrical. You can do wonders in theoretical CS with a computer and pen+paper if you're passionate for mathematical aspects. And an additional internet connection is sufficient if you want to excel in coding.

Thanks for A2A. I would strongly recommend IIIT Hyderabad and BITS Pilani as the best private universities for Computer Science education in India. If you include 3-year programs, Ashoka University would be another excellent place. Besides, I have heard good things about IIIT Bangalore, though never been there. I also think well of DAIICT Gandhinagar and LNMIIT Jaipur.

As per I know doing CSE from Galgotia University is a good option as this university along with quality education also provides you with the better placements and other teaching module that helps you to lead your career in a perfect way. Through this course it gives you complete knowledge of programming fundamental, database systems, software practice and testing, designing and development of computing system etc. It also offers B.Tech in CSE in association with IBM. This collaborative program delievers education with an added significance on latest technologies. Specialisations available in CSE in Open source Software, in Cloud computing and Virtualisation. In terms of placement too it ranks high among others and aims to place students in companies like Accenture, Cognizant, I-flex Solution, L&T Infotech etc.
