Where can I be an International student?

Where can I find internship opportunities in international organizations as a undergraduate student?

  • I am an undergraduate student. Preferably international organizations that have strong global network in which I can intern at international locations.

  • Answer:

Nowadays, there are various ways to find internship opportunities for international organizations with int'l presence and locations.  Since you mention that you're an undergraduate student, the easiest and perhaps most resourceful method would be to turn to your university's career center, since it coordinates most of the on-campus summer internship recruiting action in the spring. If you're interested in internship opportunities abroad, your best bet would be to ace interviews, receive an offer, and communicate to HR that you would like to complete the internship at an international location.  Opportunities to intern abroad are easier to come by with large corporations/businesses though, rather than with true "IOs" (the likes of int'l NGOs, United Nations, etc). Since we live in the age of the internet, it is also effective to reach out directly to the organizations you would like to work/intern for. This requires research and some hefty googling the applicant's part, as IOs often have certain qualifiers (i.e. only graduate school interns) or deadlines which are available on their websites. If no formal recruitment process is listed, you can reach out directly to the HR to inquire about summer internships. As always, a clear and direct cover letter and a error-free resume are  paramount; you should also be able to articulate why you want to work at  that specific location (abroad) and how you will be able to contribute to the IO. Although one of the biggest hurdles for summer internships abroad is work visa issues, these can be worked out if contacted early and are often a matter of paperwork. There are great websites that list different internship and volunteer opportunities for college students. Some of these are: Idealist:http://%20http://www.idealist.org Global Edge Int'l Internship Directory: http://globaledge.msu.edu/international-internships Campus Access Directory of Internship Programs:http://%20http://www.campusaccess.com/internships I would suggest browsing through these sites to see what kind of internships most interest you, and follow up accordingly. Lastly, don't hesitate to reach out to your professors or university department, because they may know personal contacts, former students, and/or past alumni who are in the line of work you are interested in. These connections can also greatly enhance your chance of landing an internship that may be difficult to break into through cold-calling or cumbersome recruitment processes. With diligence, effort, and early action, you should be able to find yourself interning abroad in the summer... it worked for me!

I am an undergraduate student, too and I have been looking for summer internship opportunities. I recently applied  to the World Youth Alliance Internship Program, in Belgium. But until I get an answer from them I plan to apply to some other organizations placed in different countries. Searching for such opportunities I noticed that there are a lot of multinational organizations and companies that offer internship positions for students, especially for those in their penultimate year of studies. Alternatives you might consider vary from the country the organizations operate, offered positions and salaries. This is the website I would suggest you to use to find what fits you best: http://www.heysuccess.com/ Wish you good luck!
