How bad is the I-95 thing right now?

Is it possible to believe the wrong thing for the right reason?

  • Is it possible to believe in the wrong thing (empirical fact) for the right reasons just as it is possible to believe in the right thing for the wrong reasons? Eg- I could believe that the earth is round because I "just feel like I'm on the top of a big sphere". I'd be believing the right thing for the wrong reason in this case, as using that reasoning I would come to the same conclusion if the earth was flat. However, I cannot think of any examples where the wrong thing can be believed for the right reasons. Is this possible?

It is a good question but the questions gives me a bit of confusion...

Reasoning is a process of taking from inputs and drawing conclusions via logic.  Your logic could be impeccable, but if your inputs were wrong then the conclusions will likely be wrong as well.

Rob Weir

Yes. If you are working on partial knowledge you can logically infer something that is not factual.

In what way is it wrong? We all do believe in wrong things to make situations simpler. For example, if you think that eating a red apple in the morning brings you luck for that day, even though there are  scientific proves that say that that is not the case, you might continue eating those apples because they improve your daily life. All in all, it depends on in what way it is wrong. If you believe that 1+1=5, then I think that the negative outweighs the positive. Whereas at the apple example, it only really affects you and your way of thinking. Thus, I think it is possible to believe the "wrong" thiings for the "right" reason.

The original question is: Is it possible to believe the wrong thing for the right reason? Answer:Yes. For example, in order to obtain answers to questions that seemed to be impenetrable and beyond nature, early man believed in the existence of invisible spirits and signs in the word around him, and made them his guides and gods.

The best ("rightest") methods tend to deliver the most  and best ("rightest") results. It therefore makes sense to follow methods consistently but also improve them considering the outcomes. On this journey we will necessarily get some things wrong using the right method. Overall, after improving the method, the results will become more accurate. Therefore it is right to accept wrongs for the right reasons. It's important to get a descend start though :)

You can indeed do this, but you need to understand that not only do your wrong's impact you and your guilt, but others around you as wellIf your doing something wrong that could really hurt somebody that is bad and that prevents you from getting in trouble then get in trouble to keep somebody else out of harms way, but the famous analogy I say is if there is an ugly girl and she asks if she looks nice, it can be good to bring somebody else up, but it will effect your personal morality and guilt if you lie.It all comes down to morality and how you feel. If you feel that doing anything bad is wrong (such as religion or sin) then don't lie or do something. But if you believe that bringing people up and making people happy then you may have to do that. I don't recommend that you do this often (or have to do this often) but if it is for the sake of building someone up then it can be ok.It's all up to what you believe in.

You can do wrong things for the right reasons, but it doesn't make them right.

Of course here I'm considering that by 'right' you mean legitimate. Back in 1950s, if you might know, USA dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. We still see that bombing's effects in the generation that are born there. So we know that it was rather horrible and inhumane. People back then knew this too. Still when people were asked how they felt about it, more than half approved of it and did not feel bad that it happened. Why so? Well, because of Pearl Harbour. In 1940s (I'm mentioning a decade because I don't know the exact year) Japanese troops attacked Pearl Harbour and that was also horrible. So if you consider some USA citizen's personal opinion this seems less unfair. Hiroshima and Nagasaki were revenge for what the Japanese did on Pearl Harbour. One would expect them to react this way and it is in a sense correct to have a grudge against another country. So it is right reason. But people living in those cities still face radiation problems and several birth defects due to what happened years back and obviously it is wrong. The citizens shouldn't have to suffer so badly in a inter country rivalry/war. The consequences made USA a bigger asshole in regard to these events. So basically, right reason, wrong action.
