How is the University of Washington?

How does an undergraduate degree from University of Washington compare to an undergraduate degree from the University of California system?

  • Assuming a non-technical degree, which UC would this university be the most equivalent to?

  • Answer:

I went to UW as an undergraduate (and graduate). I would say UW is probably closest to UCLA. The two schools are of comparable size (around 42,000 in enrollment), both are in relatively large cities, and both have a good reputation, especially among public universities. UCLA was ranked #23 and UW was ranked #52 in the last US News and World Report Rankings. Overall, UC schools have a better reputation than schools in Washington State. Obviously, every school has their specialties so reputation of specific majors may vary more than the reputation overall. UW tends to excel in science, engineering, and business at the undergraduate level. The school is also known for a few non-technical specialties such as Asian history and political science.
