What are good majors (besides Computer Science) to choose if I want to work at an internet startup/tech company?
-
I originally chose Computer Science but I'm starting to really hate my beginning classes that use C++. I love visuals and UI/UX and front-end stuff but I don't want to be that guy with a B.A. in Graphic Design, but overall I love the tech entrepreneurship culture that is mirrored here on Quora so I feel I need to get a degree in CS to be taken seriously. I'm not sure whether I should suck it up and stick with Computer Science or look for another career. I like the idea of being involved with the product in other ways (i.e. design, product management) but again don't have the imagination of another major.

A2A A couple of high-level observations first: If you don't really relish programming, it will be really hard to tough it out and complete a CS undergrad especially if you are 2 or more years from finishing. Also, the "sexiness" of calling oneself a founder/entrepreneur these days hides the nitty-gritty of startup life. It is important to understand what day-to-day life at a startup is really like vs. the popular accounts of it. It might be useful to break your problem into two parts/phases: (a) What to major in? (b) What to do after graduating? I'll provide you some food for thought to help you think through this decision and figure out what you should really do: http://blogs.wsj.com/accelerators/2013/07/22/steve-blank-defining-the-roles-of-founders/ http://www.inc.com/magazine/201309/jessica-bruder/psychological-price-of-entrepreneurship.html **** Reserve time for a phone conversation with me here: Ideal for early-stage, pre-accelerator, pre-seed, pre-angel startups or if you are employees at a large tech company or academic researchers or industry R&D excited about an idea and itching to take the entrepreneurial plunge. https://clarity.fm/maheshbhatia

Lol there is nothing wrong with being that guy, of course, you will be justifiably snickered at by pretentious CS geeks, but it really doesn't matter. You're all making a project together, and everyone's specialization's are needed. Many graphic designers are well versed in programming on top of being able to utilize Photoshop, Flash, etc.
