What is it like to work in the medical field?

What is it like to work in the field of psychology?  What are the various career paths it can lead to?

• I'm considering a career switch because psychology is an area that really interests me, and is something I often read about in my spare time, especially on the internet.  I've never considered it before because to me it seemed like a really difficult field to make a living in, but I really don't know much about doing it as a career at all. I'd be interested to know what the various possible career paths are in this field, as many options as possible.  I want to know what they involve, and what it's like to work in them as career paths. I've had friends tell me I'd be a great therapist, and now an MFT therapist friend suggested that I do a PsyD and do psych testing, since I'm very strong in math, and because it would be fun, interesting, and lucrative.  So now I'm considering it, but feel very lost because I know nothing about what it's like as a career.  Even though I'm pretty open to risk in other areas of my life, I've been pretty risk-averse in my career, so now I want as much info as possible, especially from those of you who work in the field.  Any info or advice would be awesome. Bring it, please!!

  Many styles many interests. Each brance has it's high and low points. As I am a clinician, there are other parts I'm either not interested in or no good at.  You already seem to have a leaning toward data acquisition and processing. It is generally advisable to segue into something you like, as well as what you can make a living in. If you are curious as to what makes people tick and putting interesting puzzles together which periodically get up and move them selves around, it can really be fascinating. There are many types of psychologists. Go figure out who you are first, then find which format to focus on.
