What is your degree in? More importantly, what are your skills? Think about your marketable skills that someone would pay you for. Then think about your interests- things that you like but maybe you haven't done in a professional setting yet. And finally, consider what you love to do (gardening, cooking, yoga etc.). You should consider looking for consultant/freelance type work in your field of training or interest. You can start looking for gigs on indeed, linkedin, guru, freelancer etc. It's important not to undervalue your services because you will be paying taxes on them. Also, get creative. If you see FT jobs on Linkedin that are in your area, reach out to the hiring manager directly and pitch them on how you can help their business specifically in a contractor role.

It depends on the type of "work" you're looking to do. You can find Virtual Assistant work, I have a friend who runs an agency. You can create a profile and find some freelance work on http://odesk.com . There's not much money in surveys or mystery shopping, I've been there and tried that so I wouldn't waste my time on that if I was you. There's a little bit of money in transcription, however it takes more of a time commitment and isn't as flexible when you have kids at home. If you're looking to do something that will create the ability to stay home instead of having to go back to your job, then I would suggest looking into Entrepreneurial opportunities and create a business for yourself. Most opportunities to do so don't take much investment. However, do your research and be comfortable with the team and the product you are selling. Make sure you're being led by people who have already had success in the industry you choose, and that what you are going to do is easily duplicatable, and in demand.
